A super delayed article – a lot has happened since I last posted here. My YouTube channel got hacked and it took a toll on me. I don’t make a living out of it, but I’ve been making videos for so many years, it was like losing my identity. And when I finally got it back (huge thanks to the awesome google support by the way), I was so emotionally drained, I didn’t feel happy anymore. I owe you a detailed post about the … ahem… adventure but let’s go back to the review for now!
It’s no secret that I am a huge Arrtx fan, over the years I have used many of their products, their colored pencils, acrylic markers, graphite pencils, most of which I love and highly recommend. This time they sent me their liquid ink acrylic markers, and as always a little
DISCLAIMER: The markers were sent to me to test and potentially review, but there are no affiliate links and all opinions are my own. Now that we settled this, let’s begin (oh, well, finally!).
Acrylic markers are a relatively new trend. To be exact, they’ve been out there for ever, but only the last few years they have been used extensively in “serious” art. (oh, my Gosh, I even hate myself for saying “serious” art, but that’s the best way to describe it, and o hope you get what I mean…) They are basically acrylic paint in marker form, which comes with all advantages of both acrylics and markers. They are permanent, precise, vibrant and they can write on all surfaces.
The 60-piece set comes in a deluxe sturdy cardboard box, with four levels of markers inside. An artist’s dream. Have you ever seen more beautiful colors?
The actual markers are even more impressive swatched. Apart from looking “perfect”, almost fake, they glide smoothly and apply effortlessly. It’s a good thing that I started my blog ten years ago, that they won’t accuse me of using ai to alter my images.
As I mentioned, they are opaque and you can draw with them on every surface, literally every surface, I’ll come back to this. However these Liquid Ink Acrylic Markers have a couple of differences compared to the original acrylic markers. First they feel more “painterly”, it is almost as they are targeted mostly to professional artists. Second, they are less opaque than the originals. Which comes both with advantages and disadvantages, the main disadvantage is that you need many layers to achieve full opacity. But this is exactly why they are so versatile when it comes to creating any type of art.
Arrtx on paper
Till now I used acrylic markers for more illustrative work, or to draw or surfaces I couldn’t draw with conventional means. But the more I use them, the more I am becoming confident with them, they are growing on me! And you can see how amazing they look on paper.
And the best thing is that Acrylic is lightfast and permanent, so it won’t budge, smudge or fade in any way.
Arrtx on Fabric and other porous surfaces
Sketchbooks/Notebooks (the real ones, those you actually write on!) are my favorite thing in the world. I have a ton of them, which I use to sketch, plan, write down ideas etc. And then, when I need a particular sketchbook, I never find it and I start a new one. And the number of sketchbooks always increases! But the thing is that I love to personalize them, and arrtx lets me do whatever I want on the covers, whether they are fabric, leather, etc.
Arrtx on Glass/smooth surface
My kids are big arrtx fans as well. Whenever I am sent a package, they keep eyeing the products like vultures. This time I knew better and persuaded them to help me with this review. So we took our glasses and drew on them. Aren’t they fabulous? (Both kids and Glasses!)
The blue is food coloring. To match the sea. Next time we’ll make our own glass line, what do you think? 😉
Price
Aaaand my favorite part. As I mentioned arrtx is notorious for bridging the gab between affordability and quality. The 60-piece set currently costs around 30€ (it depends on which part of the world you live) which is a bargain. For reference, posca markers, which are probably the most well-known acrylic markers out there, cost 3-4€ per marker.
One thing is for sure, arrtx acrylic markers are growing on me and I plan to use them more in the future. Too bad my kids have the same idea…
