I’ve been ”suffering” from a pretty bad art block lately. If you an artist (professional or hobbyist, it doesn’t matter) chances are that you experienced an art block at least once in your artistic journey. If you are not, an art block is when you lose all motivation to do anything art related.
It is a lot worse than it sounds. Because, we artists, need to get the creative fire that burns within us out of our system. Otherwise we will get crazy. Or drive everyone around us crazy!
Anyways, an art block is no news to me, I know how to deal with one. No matter what caused it, the best way to get over it, is pause. And start fresh.
Of course, all these are theoretical. When you are a professional artist and you need to pay your bills, pausing is a luxury you cannot afford. But at this point of my life I felt I had no choice if I wanted to grow as an artist and as a human being.
So I took the decision to pause. Take a break from my usual art (I even took a break from social media) and try something new. Something that I always dreamed of doing – 3D art. The idea is that when you start something new, you have zero expectations of yourself, so you free to create whatever your soul desires. No constraints whatsoever.
The biggest challenge was to find the program/app I would use for my 30 day 3D adventure. (Why I planned 30 days? If everything goes wrong, it’s only 30 days. I will survive 30 days) My first choice was blender. But when I tried blender on my 2015 mac book pro, I wanted to cry. If you’ve been following me for a while, you might know that I am a hardcore ipad user. I do everything on the ipad, and I just have an old mac book pro in my possession, to organize files and do minor jobs more efficiently. Anyways, the thing is that my mac book pro couldn’t handle 3D programs, that I now begin to realize, are among the heaviest out there. The obvious solution (apart from getting a new pc! which also needs to be taken care of sooner or later) was to try something on the iPad. After a quick research I decided to get the Nomad Sculpt app.
So, for the next 30 days I will be trying my luck in 3D sculpting in Nomad Sculpt for iPad. Like I mentioned before, it is something I always dreamt of doing, so it’s gonna be an exciting journey. Wish me luck!
